i have heard of the "chinese criticism," but have never experienced it before. usually this criticism includes your body, grades, social life; basically your whole being. even if youre perfect, there is still something to criticize. so ive heard.

today is monday, labor day, the day after a huge family party at my house. my mom, dad, grandmother, and i were sitting around the dining room table eating left overs from the night before. the conversation goes from criticizing the presidential candidates and their vice president accomplices to criticizing family members, more specifically, those who attended last night's festivities. and the criticizer is none other than my chinese grandmother. her opinions? she's for obama, not for that "honky woman from alaska," but doesnt plan on voting this year. also my aunty amy has an "eight o clock walk," and that i have a "protruding stomach."

wait a second. is this the so called "chinese criticism?"
i think it is. and according to my translator, she is calling me FAT. i suddenly feel all self conscious.

"are you going to go exercise today?" my grandmother asks.

"yes."

"you know, im not telling you that you have a protruding stomach to be mean, but it's constructive criticism."

is that what we're calling it?
"
ok."

"and you need to stand erect and suck your stomach in."

i dont care much for this chinese criticism thing at all.

i had originally planned to eat a piece of pumpkin crunch cake for dessert but that is now obviously out of the question.
